An online Haka may sound strange but the kiwi spirit is now embracing the social media world. Participants on Twitter and Facebook have put their hand up to take part in this unique event which can potentially reach hundreds of thousands of people. It has been overwhelming to see the interest grow leading up to the Twaka which starts midday Saturday. It has been so exciting to see people embracing this from all over the world, countries like Israel, England, Japan, Australia, Thailand, Alaska, Ireland and Bulgaria.
On Friday 31st of July was the world’s first “Twaka”. It was introduced to celebrate the end of Maori Language week. This response was fantastic – it brought people together and cemented new friendships with people from as far afield as Japan taking part. This was followed by our second Twaka and this Saturday you will once again see the Haka echoing around the internet as people get in behind and support it. To take part it is very simple – all you need to do is update your status with the Haka on your twitter and/or Facebook profiles. Torea will lead again through our following on twitter (http://twitter.com/Toreawines) and through our Fan Page on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/ToreaWines/134591400201?ref=ts).
Let’s get in behind the All Blacks.
Here is how it works: Starting at Midday (NZST) and running up to the game this Saturday, post the Haka on you twitter updates and Facebook page.
Torea’s lead will be:
#Twaka “Ringa pakia – Uma tiraha – Turi whatia – Hope whai ake – Waewae takahia – kia kino”
And then during the afternoon we can all tweet each verse below on twitter and/or post the entire three verses on Facebook.
1) #Twaka “Ka mate! Ka mate! – Ka ora! Ka ora! – Ka mate! Ka mate! – Ka ora! Ka ora!”
2) #Twaka “Tenei Te Tangata Puhuru huru – Nana nei tiki mai – Whakawhiti te ra”
3) #Twaka “A upa ne ka up ane – Upane, Kaupane – Whiti te ra”
For Facebook
Twaka “Ka mate! Ka mate! – Ka ora! Ka ora! – Ka mate! Ka mate! – Ka ora! Ka ora!”
“Tenei Te Tangata Puhuru huru – Nana nei tiki mai – Whakawhiti te ra”
“A upa ne ka up ane – Upane, Kaupane – Whiti te ra”
You never know, we could turn it into a pre All Blacks game ritual around World Cup time
We have a saying at Torea “Ka whati te tai, Ka pao te Torea” meaning: “As the tide recedes the oystercatcher strikes.”
Lets hope the All Blacks can strike Today
Cheers for now
The Torea Twaka Team.

Hello All Blacks Fans,
Are there any suggestions for use Maori and English, one after (every sentence) or Maori first than in English?
Here is the translation from the Jamie’s blog :
1) Twaka “Ka mate! Ka mate! – Ka ora! Ka ora! – Ka mate! Ka mate! – Ka ora! Ka ora!”
Twaka” It is death!, It is death!- It is life!, It is life!- It is death!, It is death!- It is life!, It is life!”
2) Twaka “Tenei Te Tangata Puhuru huru – Nana nei tiki mai – Whakawhiti te ra”
Twaka” This is the hairy man- Who fetched the sun- And caused to shine again”
3) Twaka “A upa ne ka up ane – Upane, Kaupane – Whiti te ra”
Twaka” One upward step, another upward step- An upward step- The sun shines!”
For Facebook
Twaka
“Ka mate! Ka mate! – Ka ora! Ka ora! – Ka mate! Ka mate! – Ka ora! Ka ora!”
” It is death!, It is death!- It is life!, It is life!- It is death!, It is death!- It is life!, It is life!”
“Tenei Te Tangata Puhuru huru – Nana nei tiki mai – Whakawhiti te ra”
” This is the hairy man- Who fetched the sun- And caused to shine again”
“A upa ne ka up ane – Upane, Kaupane – Whiti te ra”
” One upward step, another upward step- An upward step- The sun shines!”

Hello Michael and Slavomira
What a weekend, thank you so much for your support. Slavomira, I like your idea of having the english translation also. This would allow better understaning. It was too close to the start to incorporate it this time around.
Michael, loved the video and the way you incorporated our Maori/Kiwi culture in down town Tokyo. I am sure with you there the All Blacks will have Japan behind them for the test at the end of the year. Keep waiving the NZ flag over there.
Kia kaha

Myself and the team have heard about the ‘Twaka’ people have been getting involved in. Its sounds great. From the All Blacks it is great to hear about all the support the team has not only in New Zealand but from Kiwis all over the world. This is especially the case when going into a big game like the Bledisloe last weekend. Thanks everyone for the support and i look forward to hearing hoe the next ‘Twaka” goes.
Cheers Richie

Thanks for the support from you and the team – It is our mission to have the Twaka echoing all over the world before your BIG games in the future.
Cheers
